I’m making two hats for the upcoming Not Your Mama’s Tea Party! One is for me, this crochet one I started. The other is for the hat auction. I’m planning a huge paper wig monstrosity. I’ll start it this weekend, I don’t think it’ll take as long as the crochet hat.

A bunch of us are making hats this year for us and for the auction. I cannot wait to see them!!

I’m trying to make a hat that looks like Marie Antoinette. I’m starting with a beanie for her dress, then I’ll add her torso and head. I’ll add decorations as I go! I’m excited!

Pic for inspiration. Coffee for energy.

Last year’s party was amazing. The hats, the people, everything was just wonderful!! I bought the big black skeleton top hat then. Proceeds from the auction/tickets/etc go toward the TGRC. It’s at the Hotel Parq Central this year!! I’ll post my progress with the hats when I can.

So.

Very.

Excited!!

I’m at the airport waiting to pick up my parents from their awesome cruise. I got here very early, of course, so I’m at the restaurant right by the gate. On a whim, I brought ball of lace weight yarn I bought at Taos (who knows how long ago) and decided to design my own shawl. I grabbed an appropriate hook and my new knit picks catalog and got comfortable.

I have an idea for a crochet version of a three wedge shawl, a la the (knitted) Jen Lucas variety. I picked the lace weight because it’s got plenty of yardage for me to play with and make something substantial that would keep at least my shoulders warm. I’m hoping it works out and when / if it does I will share the pattern with you!

Notes on the catalog, of course. I like it a lot so far! I even thought of the name based on my current location.

Funny thing is, I’m also working on a vest pattern with stripes crocheted in four different colors of Bamboo Pop. That’s working out too, but a little harder to write down as I’m literally making up each row as I go.

Luke is supervising as usual. I don’t have a name for this yet.

This one’s a little different, although it’s very easy to do. It’s only half double crochets and double crochets. The tricky part is that I’m making up the stripe pattern as I go along, so I guess I better start writing this down huh?

I think it’s pretty funny / neat that I finally got around to just making my own pattern because I couldn’t find what I was looking for, lol. I’ll keep you posted!

A cubmaster wears many hats, you know, so I’m taking that literally this year!

September: popcorn hat

It’s a headband!

October: top hat (fun story about it later)

💓

November: super secret awesome-sauce giant hat (I’m still making it, this is the hat base)

Dog tail for scale.

I’ll take more pics as I finish each piece for the giant November hat and show how I put it together in another post.

I was supposed to go to a faceters guild meeting tonight, I even got there early! I sketched out a little thing while I waited.

And waited.

Where is everyone?

Oh. Across town at theĀ other community center…ugh!!

By the time I got to that part of town i was an hour late. So rather than wander in so late, I went to a new place near my neighborhood. Slice-n-Dice is a new local joint that has quick food, pizza, and board games to play! I like the lighting. I hadĀ  a watermelon cider and finished this.

The bottom is the picture I based it on. I took it outside Old Town Hat Shop last weekend on a very bright day.

Woohoo!!

    My new hat!
